Summer Intensive

For young people

Young people aged 16-19 work with an artist for one intensive week each summer to create collaborative, contemporary performance.

The Summer Intensive provides a way for young people and artists to take part in a free, immersive learning experience in contemporary performance practice. Artsadmin’s Engagement Producer works in collaboration with the lead artist to deliver and facilitate the Summer Intensive, concluding with a shared outcome for an invited audience.

We identify and bring together a range of participants who might not usually get involved in contemporary performance practices by making connections with local organisations, delivering a series of introductory workshops in sixth form colleges and schools and doing an open call online. Participants attend a taster workshop and from there, a core group takes part in the Summer Intensive. All workshops are free with lunch provided. The Summer Intensive takes place in a wheelchair accessible venue and we can cover costs associated with access requirements.

Previous Summer Intensive artists include Bhebhe & Davies (Phoebe Davies and Nandi Bhebhe) exploring movement to camera and Deanna Rodger collaboratively investigating the many ways we perform and edit ourselves through writing and devising.

Watch the films created with Bhebhe & Davies in 2018 and read a blog by participant Callum about his experience of the Summer Intensive 2019.

How to Take Part

If your college, school or organisation are interested in us delivering a Summer Intensive recruitment workshop with young people, or if you’re an individual who wants to take part, please email engagement@artsadmin.co.uk.
