From screenings and live performances to installations, debates and discussions, What Matters takes over Siobhan Davies Studios for three days in April. Featuring experimental work by artists from the UK, Europe and further afield, What Matters extends notions of dance, making connections across art forms and disciplines. Sitting somewhere between a choreographed exhibition and an exhibited choreography, curators Lucy Cash and Becky Edmunds (straybird) delve into what really matters in these artists’ practices.

The programme will include work by Julia Bardsley, Sheila Ghelani, Wendy Houstoun, Simon Ellis, Nic Haffner & Christina Ciupke, Hertog & Nadler, Henry Montes and Marcus Coates amongst many others. Special screenings of Robinson in Ruins (Patrick Keiller) and An Ecology of Mind (Nora Bateson).

Artist/film-makers Lucy and Becky co-curated the highly successful What If… festival (2010) with Claudia Kappenberg, Chirstinn Whyte and Gill Clarke. They return to curate What Matters the fourth in the series of ‘What’ festivals which was instigated by Gill Clarke (1954–2011), co-director of Independent Dance.

What Matters
is presented by Independent Dance in association with Siobhan Davies Dance and South East Dance. Additional support from the International Journal of Screendance.
