Beheld (Alone) Weisslingen

Graeme Miller

Graeme Miller continues Beheld with a new installation created for the 2015 ‘Fortress Europe’ edition of the Festival Belluard Bollwerk International in Fribourg, Switzerland.

Beheld records the sites where the bodies of stowaways have fallen from aircraft undercarriages while attempting to enter Europe and North America. Glass vessels are charged with images taken at these sites, which when lifted resonate with the sound of their location.

For Belluard Bollwerk, Graeme Miller will visit a location of an incident which occurred after the original creation of Beheld. In 2010 in the Swiss town of Weisslingen, the body of an unknown man of possible Cameroonian origin was found, presumed to have fallen from an airplane approaching Zurich airport. The image of the sky, and the sound from this location, will be presented in Fribourg as the new work Beheld (Alone) Weisslingen.
