A Double Life

Station House Opera

2015 – 2024

Two suburban houses are linked together in a dynamic tension between conformity and individuality. The houses are identical. Their occupants – both performers and audiences – attempt to be so too.

Through the use of live video beaming back and forth between the two houses, their kitchens, living rooms and hallways become superimposed into single, ‘doubled’, spaces.

As the actions of the doubled performers drift in and out of each other, the inevitable natural differences between the individuals produce behavioural fluctuations and occasional explosions.

The performance/installation lasts all evening; audiences are free to go between the two locations to watch the performance and if they choose, join in.
