THE INFINITE PLEASURES OF THE GREAT UNKNOWN

2008

A mesmerising show of terror for our time
Introducing Troupe Mabuse

THE INFINITE PLEASURES OF THE GREAT UNKNOWN presents a theatrical celebration of the death of reality.

Inspired by two fictional characters - Fritz Lang’s diabolical Dr. Mabuse, whose only desire is to destroy civilisation and Shakespeare’s character of tragedy and loss, King Lear – THE INFINITE PLEASURES... is an elaborate and never-ending choreography of chaos, possibility and prophecy.

An out of work theatre company, Troupe Mabuse, are caught in the reconstruction of Fritz Lang’s 1933 epic film The Testament of Dr Mabuse that plays to them on stage throughout the show. The company of six performers play a cast of thousands, in a never-ending state of emergency – a storm in which the fear of the unknown conceals its own controlling force.

THE INFINITE PLEASURES OF THE GREAT UNKNOWN
is a new work from Bock & Vincenzi, following the conclusion of their epic seven-year project invisible dances… and was presented in 2008 at the Tramway, Glasgow; Toynbee Studios, London; Inteatro, Italy; and Theater der Welt, Germany.

Commissioned by Theater der Welt and Tramway, funded by Arts Council England and supported by the British Council.
