In August 2018, artists Bhebhe&Davies (Nandi Bhebhe and Phoebe Davies) led Artsadmin’s one-week Summer School, ‘a resistant body’.

Over the week, a group of emerging artists explored how bodies can occupy space, working together through movement, sound and camera direction to develop a series of short videos.

The participating artists were:
Isobel Adderley
Hannah Bolt
Lucy Havard
Ella Mattalia
Himarni Moonasinghe
Jazz Moreton
Ella Tighe
Matthew Wagaine
Keza Zangu

“I just wanted to thank everyone who was part the workshop. It was a brilliant week and it was such an invaluable opportunity for me.”

“It was an incredible experience and I feel very privileged to have been part of it. It was an absolute dream to work with Nandi and Phoebe and I am so proud of the work we created over those five days.”

“I had an absolute blast creating and working with everyone; it was a real privilege to see how you both work together. You have opened my eyes to a whole new medium, performance style and creative practice.”

“I am so grateful to have had this opportunity and would love to work with you again in the future. Thanks again for a great experience.”

“I never thought I’d be capable of making art like that given it appeared that one has to be a particular ‘type’ of person with several years of experience in art circles to do such a thing. I took for granted how intensive the week would be, in part because the consumerist society tends to devalue the artistic process as we focus on the final product, but also because I didn’t appreciate how much of myself I was injecting into the piece. As such, it’s really raised the bar and standard for the kind of projects I’d love to be a part of in future.”

“The workshop was incredibly freeing and helped me to feed the beast of my creativity (which has been starving since I graduated)!”
