Freddie Opoku-Addaie

Freddie Opoku-Addaie is an East London born and Ghanaian raised, choreographer, performer, movement director and educator. Freddie seeks the unexpected using the methodologies of games or tasks to arrive at live works which are deliberately unpredictable. The results are viscerally affecting dance pieces which explore universal notions of the group, the performer, the individual and the outsider. 

Freddie is a former Royal Opera House Associate Artist at ROH2 (2009 – 12) and recipient of numerous choreographic awards, residencies and commissions, including the Robin Howard Commission, twice Finalist choreographer/performer of  Place Prize sponsored by Bloomberg. His works have been presented and toured nationally and internationally, inc. Aerowaves/ Dance Across Europe, Dance3 (UK), Jardin d’Europe (Romainia), B-Motion (Italy) and Attakkalari India Biennial Festival. Also as a facilitator on Movement direction for Turfed  LIFT Festival ( London 2014) and is touring his solo Show of Hands directed Graeme Miller, commissioned by Dance Umbrella 2013, Trinity Laban /Greenwich Dance partnership, supported by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.

Currently Freddie is co-creating/performing Unplugged Bodies with Kyoung-Shin Kim, which had its first Presentation in May at MODAFE international Festival (Seoul). He is currently an ADAD (The Association of Dance of the African Diaspora) Trailblazer Champion 2014/15  with support to develop his practice and future projects.
