Vortex Tour East

The Vortex Jazz club has chosen a special  line up of three exceptional artists, hotly tipped as names to watch, for EAST 2008, a festival championing the best of East London.

Olivia Chaney, Ayanna Witter-Johnson and Nick Mulvey are unique and talented young composer/ performers who are currently making a name for themselves on London’s songwriter circuit. Although their music heralds from three distinct influential musical styles – Folk, Jazz and African, all three share a passion for music and a performance professionalism that is rare in musicians of their age.

Olivia Chaney
A gifted virtuoso, this young folk singer will conjure dark-eyed sailors, damsels in distress and rakish Knights from an Indian harmonium and steel-string guitar. Expect to be charmed, moved and entertained by a performer and musician of unusual depth and passion.

Ayanna Witter-Johnson
A captivating composer, song-writer, vocalist, cellist and pianist who has developed musically from a diverse background of mixed cultures. Equally at home working with other artists including, Soul II Soul, Jason Yarde, Nitin Sawhney, as playing her own material, she has been described as ‘…one of our rising stars of the future' (Courtney Pine).

Nick Mulvey
Influenced by Congolese and African styles Nick Mulvey’s beautiful guitar and vocals transport you to a warmer climate. Also skilled at playing the hang (a UFO shaped instrument similar in sound to a steel pan) he is part of the newly signed Portico Quartet, on the Vortex label.
