Artsadmin Weekenders: Marcia Farquhar

11.00 – 5.00pm
Availability to attend both days is essential.

Cost: £60

Marcia Farquhar's Weekender will revolve around the biographical, the autobiographical and the meanings of places and objects. In developing short individual and group performances over the two days , participants will be expected to draw on their own past experiences and explorations but should also come prepared to find and share other means and methods for their performances. Toynbee Studios is situated in an historically and psycho-geographically rich area of London, and the weekend will begin with a look at the history of the artist-led tour followed by a silent reconnaissance tour of the surrounding neighbourhood.

Farquhar is known for her work in performance, installation, video and object-making. Much of her practice is concerned with the stories and interactions of everyday life, as well as the engineering of unexpected social interactions in which the distance between audience and performer is frequently breached. Her site-specific events have been staged and exhibited internationally in museums and galleries, as well as in cinemas, kitchen showrooms, pubs, parks and leisure centres. Among her recent works are the 30-hour live-in performance The Omnibus at the NRLA, Glasgow (2010), and the installation of The Open University, a street-side lecture theatre in a converted refuse skip at Toynbee Studios, as part of Trashing Performance (2011).
