What on Earth: Landfill

Curious

Landfill by Curious

Landfill, a short film by Curious and Andrew Kötting will be screened at the Cucalorus Film Festival in North Carolina, running from 8 to 11 November. Cucalorus is a festival that aims to support innovative work and cultural exchange, screening over 150 films from around the world.

Landfill is framed as a Beckettian post-apocalyptic picnic. As two women slowly sink into a fissure at the edge of a cliff, time-lapse cinemotography charts their slow descent into the earth as they bravely chat on, trying to figure out what went wrong, whether it was all their fault and how to keep their chins up.

Landfill is part of the What On Earth series of six short films which look at the state of the species: at some of the pressures on our planet, issues we face now and futures we may see as a consequence of the way we live today.

Supported by the National Lottery through Arts Council England and by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.
