In a room of red, charged with the energy of electro-magnetic desire and the vibration of short-circuited sensation – a female figure calculates formulae and constructs models for a series of erotic equations. The medea_DARK|ROOM is a laboratory installation of performative experiments modulated, manipulated & controlled by the persona of Medea.

medea: dark matter events is an on-going research project that utilises the Medea myth to investigate thematic strands specifically related to female sexuality, the neurobiology of creativity & the physics of eroticism. The current research is being conducted through Theron Schmidt at King’s College London, as a cross-departmental artists’ residency. Julia is a theatre artist working with an interplay of performance, video, photography, extreme garments & sculptural objects. Recent works include: The Divine Trilogy, (London, Glasgow, Portugal, Spain, Slovenia, Croatia, Belgium & Italy). meta-FAMILY (Brazil, London, Brussels, Ljubljana) & Medea: dark matter events, an on-going research project (DeptfordX 2011/12 & What Matters Festival, London).

DARK|ROOM ambient by Andrew Poppy.

Julia is a King’s Visiting Research Fellow & this edition of the project is supported by a King’s College London/SPILL 2013 commissioning initiative. Julia is an Artsadmin associate artist. Produced by BARDSLEY_POPPY projects.
