David Blandy’s new video work Biter headlines the launch of the Totemic Festival at The Freud Museum. A hip-hop fan since the early 90’s, the work examines how much hip-hop has entered the artist’s unconscious mind. Shot on location at The Freud Museum, Biter will ask questions about identity – how much of the artist’s self is hip-hop?
David Blandy is a performance and video artist who investigates the cultural forces that inform and influence him, using references sampled from the wide, disparate sources that provide his, and our own, sense of self. Blandy examines the individual's relationship to culture and history, revealing the complexities of the post-colonial condition.
[Blandy's] body of autobiographical work…resonates for anyone who likes rap, soul, video games, anime, and other facets of pop culture.
