Telematics Performance Workshops
Station House Opera
16 January 7-9.30pm and 17 January 2-4.30pm & 7-9.30pm. Free.
For the last 18 months award-winning performance company Station House Opera have been using the digital techniques of telematics to create their new show Dissolved, being performed simultaneously at Beaconsfield, London and Sophiensaale, Berlin every Thursday-Saturday from 6 – 22 March 2014.
Telematics is essentally the use of long-distance computerized technology. For Dissolved Station House Opera are choreographing a performance that exists in its entirety online, as a product of simultaneous performances happening in London and Berlin. As one live video-stream in one city merges with another in another city a new piece of work is created from it's overlapping imagery – one image dissolving into another.
For a limited series of three workshops, Julian Maynard Smith (Artistic Director of Station House Opera) will share the telematic set-up for performers to play with. Perhaps you're a performer interested in digital technologies? Perhaps you're a creator looking at issues of internationalism and long-distance? Perhaps you just fancy a couple of hours to play with what these technologies can hold? Either way, this could be the workshop for you.
The workshops are free, but places are limited. Please contact edd@artsadmin.co.uk to book your place.
Please note that further workshops about the pragmatic technical set-up of Dissolved will be run by the technical team in March 2014. For more information about Dissolved please visit the Dissolved project page.
