John Macedo: The Intimate Sound System

7-9pm. £7/£6 concessions.

London-based sound artist John Macedo conceived The Intimate Sound System after spending more than a decade performing through large sound systems at excessive volumes. The work represents a move towards a more tangible, spatial and intimate experience of sound. It explores the essential constant of electronic music – the speaker.

The Intimate Sound System approaches the speaker for what it is, the bridge between the electronic and acoustic worlds. It is treated as not only an emitter of electronically-generated sound but also as an acoustic resonant object and sound generator all of its own.

This performance of The Intimate Sound System has been conceived specifically for the Court Room at Toynbee Studios and places the audience at the centre of the work, making them an instrumental part of the performance.

The night will open with a performance in the cafe from the duo of Graham Dunning (turntable, dubplates, dentistry tools) and Colin Webster (saxophone) at 7.30pm.
