Performance Lab with Sonia Gomez: Dancers

Monday – Friday, 10am–5pm. £75.
Please make sure before booking that you can make the dates as we will not be able to issue a refund less than two weeks before the lab.

This Spring Artsadmin hosts a week-long performance lab with internationally renowned artist Sonia Gomez.

In DANCERS, Sonia invites performers to create versions of her solo, BALLERINA. Created in her bedroom with minimal resources, the score for BALLERINA is based on eight instructions and takes the concept of 'auto' as starting point. Vindicating the possibility of carrying out a project against the odds, Sonia adds 'auto' to keywords in performance making: auto-employment, auto-creation, auto-suggestion, auto-direction.

The lab will take the form of a transmission project, with Sonia exploring the score with participants in the mornings, and the participants working on it individually in a shared studio in the afternoons. Participants will be invited to codify eights instructions into abstract movement using their own resources, discoveries and references. The lab will culminate in an open studio session in which participating artists can present their own versions of the score.

DANCERS is open to twelve artists with a performance-based practice; no dance experience is required. If you would like more detailed information about the lab, please contact Nikki Tomlinson on nikki@artsadmin.co.uk or go to Sonia's website. To apply, please email a brief statement outlining your practice and your interest in taking part (200 words max) to nikki@artsadmin.co.uk.

Sonia Gomez has been making and presenting work for over 15 years. She trained at Institut del Teatre in Barcelona and P.A.R.T.S (Performing Arts Research and Training Studios) in Brussels.

Sonia Gomez performs BALLERINA on 16 March.
