Ama Josephine Budge in the Reading Room with Access Support

Every Saturday in September, the artist and writer behind the Apocalypse Reading Room – Ama Josephine Budge – will be in the Reading Room from 11am – 5pm. Ama will be taking time to think, read, write, rest and would love to welcome you to do the same. Ama will be happy to introduce visitors to the Reading Room, talk about some of the books and ideas, and hear about your own suggestions for Apocalypse survival guides.

Ama Josephine Budge is a speculative writer, artist, curator and pleasure activist whose work navigates intimate explorations of race, art, ecology and feminism, working to activate movements that catalyse human rights, environmental evolutions and troublesomely queered identities.

On Saturday 18th & 25th September, access worker Dot Alma will be in the reading room from 11am – 5pm to provide additional access support.
Dot can provide: 

• General access support to blind and visually impaired customers including Audio Description
• Communication support for BSL users: Dot is not a BSL interpreter but is level 3 qualified
• Readings from the library of books.

Dot Alma is a queer audio describer, access worker and performer. They originally trained in audio description with Quiplash back in July 2019, and has since worked across a variety of projects and organisations, including LADs, Queer House Party, The Scottish Queer International Film Festival, Jess Thom’s Triple Celebration, The Raze Collective, Butch Archives, And The Rebel Dykes Art and Archive show.

The Apocalypse Reading Room transforms a public arts space into a post-apocalyptic library installation filled with books for all ages, exploring ways to build, transform, rethink, rewrite and reimagine our futures. The Apocalypse Reading Room is activated by two artists, Lateisha Davine Lovelace-Hanson and Mohammed Z Rahman, who have been selected for a three-month residency programme at Artsadmin’s home, Toynbee Studios.
