Carlos Cortes makes dance and movement-based work, performance, and installation, as well as being a set designer and painter.
He is interested in how human groups interact with space. Very often he works with a combination of professional and non-professional performers, involving the audience in the process or in the actual performances. These are usually site-specific projects, inspired by architecture and/or landscape. Recent projects include a site specific dance performance at the Hayward Gallery, an interactive/participatory installation at Kew Gardens, Dance and Architecture and Dance and Visual Arts workshops in Museums and festivals in the UK and Europe. Future projects include a Dance and Visual Arts in Nature workshop Utah, a residency in Ireland, a set design for the Centro Dramatico de Aragon and two solo shows in London’s GX Gallery and Centro de Historia in Zaragoza, Spain.
