Confabulation

Gary Stevens

2000 – 2021

Each performer was given names and brief histories through encounters with the others. They had to accept all the names and the suggestion of any loaded question.

They may have any number of names and identities. The characters were slowly bound together by a network of relationships. On eye contact the performers shrieked in recognition of a long lost friend. They recapped their multiple identities without any emotional engagement. The show used as a starting point, the behaviour that characterises acute amnesiacs, who do not (or cannot) admit to their memory loss, but instead try to fill in the gaps by fabrication.
