Duncan MacAskill was artist in residence at Toynbee Studios between 2004 and 2007 while the building underwent major renovation. During this time he worked with processes of collection, retrieval and material excavation to mark the development of Toynbee Studios.
As part of this record, MacAskill continued a long standing mail-art relationship with Artsadmin, to create an extended visual diary of the organisation and the artist. Posted work has a myriad of shapes; hand tinted maps, layered text, embroidered and painted landscapes, and found-objects, revealing scales both geographical and intimate.
Duncan MacAskill is a London-based visual artist whose work has been presented in a range of contexts, including a large scale commission for Sadlers Wells and installations at Wapping Power Station, drawing collaborators from backgrounds spanning dance, theatre and sound.
