Tentacular Spectacular

Oozing Gloop

Curated by the world’s premier, green, autistic drag queen Oozing Gloop, Tentacular Spectacular is an (ad)venture into networking networks of narrative, phobia, hope and utopia by showcasing the self made cryptids of 21st century trans* performers.

Oozing Gloop is joined by the architect of your eternal suffering, Olympia Bukkakis. Together, these Jesters of the new Dark Age will lure you through a psychosexual swamp of fester, rot & future relics.

The writing is on the wall – everywhere, slimy green figures of folk horror are a-spawnin’. Moulding as our climate collapses into a primordial sludge, this slime becomes a generous furnace of creation. Emerging from this decay are the fruitful offshoots of this tentacular undergrowth; myth-busting, world-building ogre Shrek666, non-binary, body-horror performer  Bonnie Bakeneko and a mystery guest goblin working with themes of monstrosity & mulch. Jenkin Van Zyl conjures an inflatable underworld for these critters to play in, accompanied by melodic, monstrous and magical sound design by Nicol Parkinson.

These gender-non-conforming, trans* & (by coincidence) neurodivergent drag artists invite you to fester in the problems that we have, whilst celebrating the solutions that are wrung from rot. It’s frog-memes, it’s goblins, it’s fashion baby!

This piece was originally commissioned for Fierce Festival 2022.

Oozing Gloop describes herself as “the world’s premier green, autistic drag queen”. Troublesome, camp and revolting; her interdisciplinary practice born out of a life of cabaret creates a queer spectacle exploring Awe: the awful, the awesome, and the autistic.
