2019 – ongoing

Arrivals + Departures is a public artwork by artist duo YARA + DAVINA about birth, death and the journey in between. The public are invited to share the names of those who have arrived and departed, on live boards, as a way to acknowledge, celebrate and commemorate.

Integral to the public artwork is a series of free events – birth and death cafes, death mindfulness practice, instruction manuals for when you die, death euphemism bingo, and a last dance disco – inviting people to sing, laugh, dance and maybe cry, through collective moments of figuring out how to better celebrate new life, grieve, live well and prepare for the end.

Names can be submitted in real time at the Arrivals + Departures boards and online at www.arrivalsanddepartures.net.

“In a world where visiting others is severely limited, this is a beautiful gesture to celebrate and commemorate others while remaining socially distant.”
