Presented by Theaterhaus Gessnerallee, Zurich, Switzerland

Sound composition by Graeme Miller

Formerly an equestrian centre for the Swiss cavalry, Theaterhaus Gessnerallee now has a reputation for international contemporary theatre.

“Covered with a thick pelt of grass this ex-military equestrian centre became a dream-like image of itself. Its enigma was not that of a hidden object under wraps a la Christo, but rather the convulsive mutation of an object as its secret, inner life became visible for a brief time…

… grass sprouted across the building in a smooth, almost liquid surface from top to bottom and side to side. The fine ridge and slight seam of classical proportion and detail showed in converse relief beneath a blanket of growing green snow. Even the head of the lion over the main entrance was recast in order to grow its own fur. The success was probably achieved through the no-nonsense uniformity of such a stated spectacle.”
