What’s The Spirit Of Dewsbury?

Encounters

Since 10th March 2010, Encounters have unearthed the reflections, perceptions, attitudes and ambitions of over 2,000 people in Dewsbury in their shop on Longcauseway.  It’s been a place for the town to express, witness and exchange personal thoughts and feelings about past, present and future everyday life.

On Wednesday 9th June, a sample of the stories and exchanges that have taken place in the shop are brought to life in a verbatim performance What’s the Spirit of Dewsbury?

After the performance, there will be a facilitated discussion about how it feels to live alongside each other now, and the challenges and possibilities of shaping together new stories to live by.

Encounters will be joined by place-making researcher and writer Phil Wood, who will share his ideas about developing Dewsbury, and reflect on approaches to Place-Making in other towns across the globe.

Places are free for this event. To reserve a place, please contact Ruth Nutter at RuthN@encounters-arts.org.uk or 07951 578208.
If you can’t make Weds 9th June, you can still see What’s the Spirit of Dewsbury? on Saturday 12th June with performances throughout the day in the shop. Free, just turn up.
