Florence Peake

MAKE by Florence Peake, image by Gian Paolo Cottino.

Florence Peake's MAKE takes an irreverent look at how sculpture is created, displayed and maintained. A task force of female performers build and then dismantle a monolithic structure through a series of choreographed actions which ritualise, parody and unveil the often hidden labour of art-making.

First created at Yorkshire Sculpture Park in 2012, MAKE has since been presented at the BALTIC and at V22 in London. MAKE for Axis Arts will be performed by Iris Chan, Katye Coe, Rachel Gildea, Amaara Raheem, Susanna Recchia, Nikki Tomlinson, Rosalie Wahlfrid.

With an extensive training in dance and a background in painting, Florence Peake's performance practice uses drawing, painting and sculpture materials combined with found, appropriated and fabricated objects placed in relationship to the moving body. Site and audience, live and recorded text, wit and humour are key to her work.

MAKE by Florence Peake is produced by Dance Art Foundation and funded by the National Lottery through Arts Council England. Florence Peake is an Artsadmin Associate Artist 2012-14.
