Arrivals + Departures: The Power of Naming
YARA + DAVINA
Arrivals + Departures is a public artwork by artist duo YARA + DAVINA about birth, death and the journey in between
Yara El-Sherbini and Davina Drummond reflect on their public art installation Arrivals + Departures in this free virtual event, exploring the power of naming in public sculptures and memorials as a personal and potentially radical act.
They’ll be joined by special guests, to be announced, and moderator Thomas Keenan, a professor at Bard College and leader of the new integrated curriculum in Human Rights and the Arts through the Open Society University Network. In conjunction with the discussion, these guests will take over the Arrivals + Departures boards in Brooklyn Borough Hall and BAM’s Instagram account to name births, lives, and deaths that are relevant to their work, inviting us to engage with the installation in new ways.
This event will include ASL interpretation and Closed Captioning.
