Moving Worlds: Dance on Film

Rosemary Lee

A composite image of photos from Rosemary Lee's different pieces

This touring programme celebrates Rosemary Lee’s unique contribution to dance film making over the last 30 years. As with her live works, her choreographies for film revel in and reveal human movement as part of the environment, be that rural, natural or urban.

Drawing on a substantial body of collaboratively made films which focus on this interconnectedness of the human and the environment, a bespoke selection will be curated for each screening and introduced live by Rosemary.

The programme will include acclaimed works such as:

  • boy Peter Anderson & Rosemary Lee, 1995
  • greenman Peter Anderson & Rosemary Lee, 1996
  • Infanta Peter Anderson & Rosemary Lee, 1998
  • Snow David Hinton & Rosemary Lee, 2003
  • Common Dance Roswitha Chesher & Rosemary Lee, 2010 excerpt
  • Liquid Gold is the Air Roswitha Chesher & Rosemary Lee, 2015 excerpt
  • Circadian Roswitha Chesher & Rosemary Lee, 2020
  • Sentence Rosemary Lee & Hugo Glendinning, 2023

From a nine-year-old boy leaping through sand dunes to a little girl dancing in a forgotten garden, to the glorious sight of 70 performers between nine and 80 gliding through a cathedral of trees, these award winning dance films use the individuality and grace of each performer to transport you to different worlds.

“It’s opened my eyes to the accessibility of dance.”

“A beautiful and exhilarating and thought-provoking evening which needs to be
shared.”

“An amazing body of humanitarian, nostalgic and very beautiful work. Made my
heart race at times.”
