Enter into the realm of The Paper Cinema, where a new world emerges through intricate paper imagery. This new show, which premieres at Toynbee Studios for EAST, with live music by Roger Eno and images by Nic Rawling, takes you on a fantastical journey transporting you around the East End from reality into the land of dreams.
Illustrator and creator Nic Rawling is the man behind The Paper Cinema. Born out of the Bournemouth music scene, their work has gathered a cult following and became one of the most talked about acts of the Edinburgh Fringe 2008. The highly original theatre company use projections of intricate illustrations in order to tell their mysterious stories and create a ‘live cinema’ experience.
Fragile and beautiful… sinister and enchanting… wonderful music gives the whole thing the feel of a quirky silent movie. ****
Warm, fun and courageous ****
Born in Woodbridge, Suffolk and still resident in East Anglia, composer/performer Roger Eno is an internationally respected artist. His extensive solo output, ranging from sparse piano works through string quartets, music for chamber orchestra to atmospheric electronic ‘collages’, carry his unique mixture of the ‘bitter sweet’. Equally as highly regarded are his varied musical collaborations and ‘visual accompaniments’ – his theatre, film and exhibition works.
The Paper Cinema is presented by Serious as part of EAST 2009.
