Robin Deacon presents Stuart Sherman’s ‘Hamlet’ (A Portrait)

Robin Deacon

Robin Deacon presents Stuart Sherman's 'Hamlet' (A Portrait)

The culmination of a three-year project exploring the work of US performance artist Stuart Sherman (1945 -2001) a key figure in the downtown New York avant garde performance scene from the 1970's onwards. Central to the evening will be the first ever re-staging of Stuart Sherman's ensemble performance Hamlet: (A Portrait).
“I…wanted to confront the split between avant garde theater and traditional theater, and thought one of the best ways to bring the debate to a head as it were, was to take a work like Hamlet and show what relevance my way of working would have.” Stuart Sherman, 1985
Directed by Robin Deacon with eight performers, the performance represents a unique and singular showing of Shakespeare's text.
Preceded by a short performance by an early career artist on the bar stage. Post show Q&A with Mark Waugh, A Foundation.
