Robin Deacon is an artist, writer, film-maker and educator currently based in the USA.
His interdisciplinary practice has spanned a variety of disciplines and themes, including explorations of performer presence and absence, the role of artists as biographer and the possibility for applying journalistic approaches to arts practice.
Most recently his practice has shifted into the area of documentary film, with a series of works that aim to interrogate the mapping and ethics of performance re-enactment. As well as a recent re-staging of Stuart Sherman’s ensemble version of Hamlet (A portrait), he has continued to tour his solo performance ‘The Argument Against the Body’ to national and international venues.
In 2012 his latest work ‘The Conversation’ shown in the USA with the resulting documentation now part of the British Government Art Collection. Robin is an Associate Professor of Performance at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
