Talking Shop

Led by Artsadmin, Live Art Development Agency and New Work Network, (LAAN), Talking Shop is a free quarterly event for recent graduates and early career artists (intended for those who have been making work for up to three years making work) working in the areas of Live Art and interdisciplinary performance practices, offering 15-minute advice sessions with professional advisors, break-out dialogues and talks on a range of issues. It is held in the Arts Bar & Café at Toynbee Studios.

The next Talking Shop, on 9 June, will include a presentation by Andy Field and Deborah Pearson of Forest Fringe focusing on:

Re-make and Re-imagine: Experimenting with new ways of doing old things

“In the last five years Forest Fringe has established itself as an unconventional, artist-led home for interesting and unusual work at the Edinburgh Festival and beyond. For this Talking Shop event, led by its co-directors Debbie Pearson and Andy Field, we want to share the experience we have gained from making Forest Fringe happen. We want to think about resourcesfulness and imagination, not just in what you make but how you make it. We want to talk both about how we’ve built Forest Fringe and some of the other organisations and communities we’ve worked with along the way. We hope to suggest some exciting approaches to developing new artist-led initiatives and to challenging the conventional wisdom around how things should be done.”
Andy Field

For more details and to book a 15-minute advice session, please contact Cat Harrison and give a brief description of what you would like to talk about.

We also recommend that everyone interested in attending downloads a copy of LAAN’s Frequently Asked Questions, Top Tips and Useful Lists, in case your questions are already answered there. There is also a wealth of information available available at Artsadmin’s LINKS and Live Art Development Agency’s downloadable resources.

This event is free. Places for one-to-one advisory sessions are limited.

The Live Art Advisory Network (LAAN) is a partnership between Artsadmin, Live Art Development Agency and New Work Network. LAAN draws together the distinct expertise of the three organisations to support the professional development of London-based artists.
