What On Earth: Out of the Blue
Ackroyd & Harvey
7pm. £4 entry (including snacks, wine and soft drinks)
As part of their monthly neighbourhood centre Film Club, Coin Street will be showing Ackroyd & Harvey's short film Out of the Blue alongside Werner Herzog's documentary Cave of Forgotten Dreams.
Out of the Blue was created by Ackroyd & Harvey after documenting vapourtrails left by aircraft in the skies above their Surrey studio. On 15 April 2010 the Eyjafjallajokul volcano in Iceland erupted and for six days the skies above the UK were free of air traffic, providing a unique opportunity to experience life without the pollution air travel causes both acoustically and visually. Out of the Blue is a meditation on the power of silence when the sky is momentarily stilled.
Out of the Blue was created by Ackrpyd & Harvey for a wider series of six short films called What On Earth. Commissioned by Artsadmin and Xenoki What On Earth aimed to look at the state of the species: at some of the pressures on our planet, issues we face now and futures we may see as a consequence of the way we live today.
Supported by the National Lottery through Arts Council England and by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.
