7.30pm
Tickets £15 / £7.50 concessions

Unlimited Global Alchemy comes to Southbank Centre as part of the London 2012 Festival during the Paralympic Games.

Co-directed by Rachel Gadsden and choreographer Athina Vahla, the performance work Alchemy premieres on 5 September. It features Freddie Opoku-Addaie and Sarah Chin as performers, with Gadsden creating visual art live on stage. They are joined by Michael Mannion (lighting); Chas De Swiet and Paul Gundry (sound); Mamoru Iriguchi (design).

This special evening also features four short films, featuring Gadsden and members of the Bambanani Group, which were shot on location in Khayelitsha Township and at SOBEIT Studios, Cape Town, in October 2011.

Made by Gadsden with filmmakers Cliff Bestall and Deborah May, each portrait offers a glimpse of the world as seen through its subject’s eyes; at turns joyful, resolute, defiant, heartfelt and poetic. Viewed together, the series presents multiple reflections on the political and personal currents explored throughout Unlimited Global Alchemy. All films are fully subtitled in English.

To conclude, a talk between Rachel Gadsden, and Bambanani artist-activists Nondumiso Hlwele, Bongiwe Mba,Thobani Ncapai is chaired by curator and CEO of Shape Arts, Tony Heaton.
