Town Hall Artworks tour
7pm. Free, but booking essential.
Since 2009 Artsadmin has worked with Town Hall Hotel, a five star hotel in Bethnal Green's Grade II-listed Old Town Hall building, to commission two major series’ of artworks by local artists.
In July 2012 the second phase of artworks were fully installed. These included newly commissioned works by Bernd Behr, Bethan Lloyd Worthington, Corinne Felgate, Kristian De La Riva, Michaela Nettell, Sarah Baker and Toby Christian, in addition to several follow-on pieces by Peter Liversidge, who realised some of the 98 proposals he had published in Phase I.
Consisting of works in a range of forms and genres, from the hotel guests’ Do Not Disturb signs to a smashed porcelain sculpture in the luxurious De Montford Suite to online film animations, this phase of artworks not only discusses the history and locality of Town Hall Hotel, but explores the notion of hotels as transitory sites of pleasure and hyper-mobility.
Tours will be run by project curators Manick Govinda, Nikki Tomlinson and Cat Harrison and last approximately 70 minutes.
