In honour of the forgotten, misplaced, unrecovered and removed the artist presents a stylized ‘corpse-washing’ ritual over nine hours. In an age when media connectivity means we can no longer claim ignorance to global human tragedy we are often left feeling ineffective and powerless. In this work, voluntary participants each put a face to a number, a presence to a concept and collectively return the cold hard statistic of a death toll to the flesh and blood of an individual and what it means to be mortal.

Julie Vulcan is a Sydney based performer, director and interdisciplinary artist. Her practice spans devised performance, installation, site specific and durational work. She has been a core member of several performance ensembles, most recently Unreasonable Adults. Julie has performed in works presented at Sydney Festival, Adelaide Fringe, Melbourne Fringe, SPILL Festival 2007, Underbelly Arts and Qubit Festival Dunedin (NZ), amongst others.
