MAKE
Florence Peake
Free. No advance booking.
Florence Peake's MAKE takes an irreverent look at how sculpture is created, displayed and maintained. Originally created at Yorkshire Sculpture Park, MAKE will be presented over a weekend at BALTIC this July.
A task force of female performers build and then dismantle a monolithic structure through a series of choreographed actions which ritualise, parody and unveil the often hidden labour of art-making. MAKE unpicks conceptual art and the 'great' masculine heroes of the minimalist canon; Donald Judd, Carl Andre and Don Flavin.
The performances at BALTIC will be preceded by impromptu happenings inside and outside its gallery spaces.
MAKE by Florence Peake is co-produced by Artsadmin and Dance Art Foundation in association with BALTIC and funded by the National Lottery through Arts Council England. MAKE has been developed with support from Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Live Art Development Agency's DIY scheme, APT Deptford, Newlyn Exchange and Chisenhale Dance Space.
