Orchard Portraits
Rosemary Lee
A seven-screen video installation created and directed by Roswitha Chesher and Rosemary Lee
Choreographer Rosemary Lee brings her unique approach to landscape and movement to a new video work made in collaboration with filmmaker Roswitha Chesher.
Filmed over a year through four seasons, Orchard Portraits is inspired by, and shot in the historic wild orchard at West Horsley Place. Bringing the beauty of outside in, the resulting seven-screen video installation will inhabit the stone hall over summer/autumn 2023. Five senior performers are each captured in a meditative and elegant duet with an ageing tree whilst in contrast 60 school children burst through the orchard in moments of joy and discovery.
Reminding us of natures’ cycles of regeneration, Orchard Portraits conjures up a sense of our deep and ancient connection with trees.
