Residency at Freedomworks, Hastings, UK

In October 2024, Anna Maria Nabirye and Annie Saunders undertook a residency at Freedomworks, Hastings to further the development of Up In Arms.

A two-week writing and development residency for Up In Arms: A Sourcebook for Intersectional Collaboration. Saunders and Nabirye conducted interviews with participants who were featured in the De La Warr exhibition, with project mentor Noorafshan Mirza, and with practitioners Lama Amine and Imogen Knight, whose conversations will be edited into thematic sections of the book on ‘Stakes’, ‘Layers’, and ‘Projection.’ They also recorded conversations between themselves, the transcripts of which will form practical exercises and prompts based on direct experience of working as a duo, and as a Black woman and a white woman who are friends.
