Up in Arms

Annie Saunders Anna Maria Nabirye

Anna Maria Nabirye and Annie Saunders, Up In Arms. Photo by Emma Jane Richards.

Anna Maria Nabirye and Annie Saunders introduce the latest in their series of digital responses to their live cross disciplinary project, Up in Arms, which explores racism, feminism, and friendship.

Using video footage and audio recordings from previous encounters with participants and recordings of performances, they present a special re-edited and re-synced version for Hungry Eyes Festival. This is followed by a live discussion between the two artists exploring the connections and disconnections in the work and their own relationship to it.

A gallery of five portraits of women who re-created the iconic 1971 photo of activists and friends Dorothy Pitman-Hughes and Gloria Steinem (by Dan Wynn) is simultaneously available to view on the Hungry Eyes website.
