Seke Chimutengwende is a choreographer and performer working in the UK and abroad for over 20 years. Seke uses choreography to experiment with collectivity and alternative approaches to authorship and governance; playing with form to shift and question hierarchies. His recent work It begins in darkness (2022) explores haunting and colonial legacies and he is currently researching two new works: The Last Quartet, which imagines a “last work” or “last attempt” at choreography inspired by TS Eliot’s Four Quartets; and an as-yet untitled work inspired by Miles Davis’ electric period of the early 1970’s.
In December 2021, Seke undertook a LAB residency at ArtsAdmin to research long solo improvisations of 50-60 minutes incorporating movement and text. Seke draws on memory, sensation and imagination to conjure worlds out of nothing. A fusion of dance, poetry, stand-up, storytelling, philosophy and politics, each solo is a riotous exploration of the present moment. He performed 2 Long Solos at Chisenhale Dance Space in 2022, performed Long Solo 3 at Wainsgate Dances in Hebden Bridge, Yorkshire in 2024, and this year performed Long Solo 4 at RISE Festival in Findhorn and Long Solo 5 at Karlovac Dance Festvial, Croatia.
Seke Chimutengwende completed a Lab residency in 2021.
