Victor Esses is a London-based, multidisciplinary artist of Jewish-Arab descent. His practice comprises live and filmed performances, installations, and writing that often centre on nuanced, intersectional auto/biographical experiences (e.g. Latinx and queer) of belonging, resilience, and intimacy – encouraging audiences to reflect on what makes us most human.
“In my first Lab at Artsadmin, I began developing ideas for an installation exploring rage, which evolved into the project Rage Trip. I did writing and recording, ran a workshop with local participants exploring the theme, created visual and audio material, and transformed the characterful Courtroom into shifting spaces using video projections, sound and audience invitations, presenting an immersive, interactive sharing. During my second Lab, I brought together text, voiceover and video mapping to create a focused, tangible space with Styrofoam, objects, three-sided projections and original music: a draft close to the final piece, expanding my theatre-based work and building on Unfamiliar to Us.” – Victor
