Stereo Dances was an interactive dance-sound work that has been developed by Rosemary Lee and Nic Sandiland out of his original idea and earlier manifestation.
Each participant could create a private duet with a partner as they listened to instructions played through pairs of headphones. Engrossing and refreshingly uplifting, each couple found themselves creating different styles of dances – from formal to the unexpected and from the meditative to folk – set against a range of musical backgrounds.
“The sight of people twisting in concentrated silence ought to be as excruciating as hearing non-singers droning along to their iPods. But within the bounds of this ingenious installation it’s charming.”
