Yara El-Sherbini’s multi-disciplinary practise encompasses live art, video and installation, using recognizable formats within contemporary popular culture, such as pub quizzes and game shows, to playfully explore culturally specific, socio-political issues that touches on our everyday life. She received her MA from the Slade, UCL, and is currently part of the exhibition Rain, Snow and Hail, LWL Industrial Museum, Dortmund, Germany until February 2014.

Recent commissions include: The Victoria & Albert, London for their National Art Library’s new initiative to archive contemporary & modern Arab, Turkish & Iranian art and design in 2012. Artist in Residence’s include the Hayward Gallery as part of Wide Open School, in 2012, and at ZKM, Germany as part of The Global Contemporary in 2011. She has been part of group shows at Modern Art Oxford, The David Roberts Art Foundation (London), The RCA (London) and Lombard-Fried Projects, New York. Her work has been shown at the V&A (London), Arnolfini (Bristol), National Portrait Gallery (London), Tate Britain (London), IKON gallery (Birmingham), CCCB Museum (Barcelona), Quad Gallery (Derby), BALTIC (Gateshead), Mostyn Gallery (Wales), and Palazzo Papesse (Siena).
She is currently working on newly commissioned work for a solo show at the New Art Exchange, Nottingham for May 2014 and is represented by La Caja Blanca Gallery, Spain.
