Speaker biography
work-seth/tallentire was formed in June 1997 to identify the collaborative project of the artists John Seth and Anne Tallentire, which has been ongoing since 1993. Their solo exhibitions include the performance/video cycle trailer commissioned by the Project Art Centre, Dublin (1998) and Dispersal, Orchard Gallery, Derry (2000). Group exhibitions include 0044 at PSI, New York (1999), Preditor at KX-Kampnagel, Hamburg (2001), Sum of the Parts at South London Gallery (2002) and more recently Densité +0 at École des Beaux-Arts (ENSBA), Paris, and FRI-ART: Centre d'Art Contemporain, Fribourg (2004). Seth and Tallentire also continue to pursue individual projects. Tallentire’s recent exhibitions include Drift at Void Gallery, Derry (2005), Arena Industriale, Storie UrbaneThe Pursuit of Happiness, Douglas Hyde Gallery, Dublin (2007) and group exhibitions, Out of Place, Hatton Gallery, Newcastle (2003) and From Here, Bloomberg Space (2006). In 1999, Tallentire represented Ireland at The Venice Biennale. Seth’s essay “Itinerant Improvisations” in After Criticism: New Responses to Art and Performance, Dr Gavin Butt (ed.), was published by Blackwell in 2004. He began a PhD by project at the RCA in 2004 to research the politics of agency, subjectivity and expression in relation to practices of chance, focusing on the work of John Cage. Anne Tallentire was born in Ireland, John Seth in India. They live and work in London.
