Working Hard Doing Nothing

Tom Fleming & Edwin Pennicott

Working Hard Doing Nothing

Tom Fleming & Edwin Pennicott are a collaborative partnership whose work is concerned with the nature of perception, illusion, and the relation between the false and the real, the virtual and the physical. Their work deals with the perceptual capabilities of the camera and how the camera image is interpreted as a representation of a physical environment. Through a range of media including performance/installation and sculpture, the artists play on our assumptions about what we see and question the decisions that determine what we choose to look at.

In December, Pennicott & Fleming will show a series of works conceived and executed during their bursary residency supported by Artsadmin at Toynbee Studios. Developed around ongoing concerns of work and workplace as explored through durational performance, they will for the first time use others as performers, thus seeking to distance themselves from the connotations of artist-as-performer.
