Walk The Chair

La Ribot

Walk The Chair by La Ribot

La Ribot has created a new installation specially commissioned for the Hayward Gallery’s latest exhibition MOVE: Choreographing you. With WALK THE CHAIR is a randomly moving installation using an object she is particularly fond of, the chair – more precisely the wooden foldable kind which have regularly appeared in many of her pieces.
Approximately fifty chairs have been engraved with quotations relating to movement, interactivity, public space and the action of reading and writing, making connections with the overall theme of the exhibition and also the other participating artists. The chairs, scattered throughout the galleries and are intended to be used by both the visitors and the invigilators alike. They can sit and contemplate the other works or the other visitors, they can touch them, move them , read them, ignore them, fold them and arrange them against the wall…..
