Not Forgotten
Geraldine Pilgrim
Not Forgotten is inspired by the distinctive 1601 family portrait of Mary and John Towneley and their 14 children. The painting which hangs peacefully in the Towneley Room acknowledges the lives of their seven daughters and seven sons as if they had all survived to adulthood. Not Forgotten celebrates the Towneley family lineage and casts a light on the lives of those who lived in this former family home, recognising the reality of the fragility of life in that period.
Not Forgotten is commissioned by Mid Pennine Arts in partnership with Towneley Hall and Park as part of Contemporary Heritage, the first of an ambitious new programme of contemporary site responsive commissions to be sited in seven historic venues and their grounds across Pennine Lancashire.
