In the context of a contemporary ‘culture industry’ in which emotion is often used as a means to entertain its consumers, how do we think about the value of emotion in contemporary performance? With Lauren Berlant, Bird La Bird, Lisa Blackman, Jennifer Doyle, Adrian Howells and David Hoyle.
Trashing Performance explores the power of creative expressions that wilfully debunk or ignore cultural ideals and hierarchies of critical value. This programme of events provide a space to think again about the value of irreverent and sometimes overlooked performance practices in public exchanges between different performance audiences and artists, academics, activists, and curators.
Trashing Performance is second themed year of Performance Matters, a collaboration between the Live Art Development Agency, Goldsmiths, University of London, and the University of Roehampton. Funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council.
