Lachrymae photos
On 19 May Artmusic created their installation Lachrymae in Wandsworth Park’s beautiful Avenue of Trees, as part of Wandsworth Arts Festival’s The Shimmy.
Inspired by the transformation of girls to trees and tears to amber in Ted Hughes’ adaptation of Ovid’s Metamorphoses, Artmusic created an immersive sound and sculptural composition made up from recorded sounds, live choirs and teardrop sculptures – all through the amber-tinted lenses of masks audiences were given to wear.
The whole day was lots of fun, with visitors from all ages enjoying the various elements of the piece. With thanks to commissioners Wandsworth Arts Festival and the members of The Festival Chorus who took part.
Lachrymae is created by composer Helen Ottaway, sound designer Alastair Goolden and artists Rowena Pearce and Tim Millar.
