Filmed in the soon to be demolished Circus Street Market Hall, the straybird artists – Becky Edmunds and Lucy Cash – along with photographer Zoe Manders – pay tribute to this unique building, reflecting on its distinct architecture and the role it has played in the lives of generations of Brighton families.
Various members of these families; grandfathers, fathers and sons who worked at this wholesale fruit and veg market, were invited to describe what the site looked , sounded and felt like at the height of its working life.
The resulting installation of still and moving image has a choreographic sensibility as the patterns and rhythms of their disappearing way of life are revealed.
Commissioned by South East Dance and supported by National Lottery through Arts Council England .
