This spring sees the London premieres of the final two works that make up the Operation Infinity series that Simon Vincenzi started working on in 2008.
Continuing to explore themes of possession, a strand that links all four works in the series, both Luxuriant and King Real Against the Guidelines also involve overlapping casts.
In Luxuriant, the fictional band of players Troupe Mabuse, a theatre company under the control of psychic shape-shifter and master of disguise Dr. Mabuse, make a desperate and absurd attempt to reconstruct the classical musical film Gold Diggers, in the recently refurbished People’s Palace theatre.
In King Real, Simon Vincenzi, with the aid of online translation software, recreates the storm scene from Shakespeare’s King Lear, generating an environment that holds the performers in a poetic and visceral search for meaning. Inhabiting the theatre and backstage areas of the Toynbee Studios, this experience invites the audience to explore the boundary between spectator and participant.
